The savory buttermilk quick bread recipe whips up quickly and is a wonderful complement to most meals. Serve it with soup, use it for a sandwich, or add it to a picnic.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a one pound loaf pan by rubbing it with butter until it is completely greased.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, yeast, shredded cheddar and fresh herbs.
Melt the butter and stir it into the buttermilk. Pour the liquid ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and fold together until a shaggy, wet dough is formed.
Scrape the dough into the prepared pan and bake for 50-60 minutes. It is done when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack. Let it cool another 10 minutes before slicing.
